What Your Favorite Animal Says About You

Dear beautiful soul,

I want to share a little game I love—a mini-psychology exercise that’s as playful as it is revealing.🧠✨It’s a gentle way to get to know yourself on a deeper level and uncover patterns that might be quietly shaping the way you connect with your pet, your relationships, and even yourself.

Take a moment and answer these in your head:

  1. What’s your favorite color—and why? (List three deep reasons.)
  2. What’s your favorite animal—and why? (Again, think of three reasons.)
  3. What’s your favorite form or body of water (rain, ocean, a birdbath, etc.)—and why?

OK GET READY for the reveal!!
At first glance, these might seem like simple preferences. But here’s the secret:
🎨 Your favorite color reflects how you see yourself.
🐆 Your favorite animal reveals the qualities you subconsciously seek in a life partner.
🛁 Your favorite form of water represents how you relate to emotions and life itself.

It’s not just about what you say—it’s how you say it. The tone, the pauses, and the passion in your voice can reveal truths you might not even be aware of.

I was told for this game that our favorite animal is a reflection of what we desire in a partner. But over time—through deep conversations with clients and my personal experiences—I’ve realized that the real magic here is this: it shows you what you already hold inside. Many of us choose an animal we’ve adored since childhood because it represents qualities we have valued long before our romantic journeys even began.

For me, that animal is the cheetah. I first fell in love with the cheetah through an African folktale about a mother cheetah and a lazy hunter: Envious of her hunting skills, the hunter stole her cubs, and she wept for months, leaving lasting marks of grief down her face. Later, I watched a nature documentary about two cheetah brothers who stayed inseparable, even in the toughest circumstances.
To me, the cheetah embodies loyalty, heart, and gracea fierce provider who stands by family through thick and thin. It’s no surprise then that my own partner today mirrors these qualities in ways I never expected.

But the truth is, I recognized these qualities because they were already within me.

The same is true for you. Your pet, your favorite animal, and your deepest desires are all doors to discover the love, wisdom, and strength that already exist inside you and are ready to be seen. The intelligence you admire in a dolphin, the power of a lion you wish to feel, or the ease your own pet embodies when they rest—it’s all an invitation for you, too.

When you accept the invite and start opening these doors, major shifts happen. The second-guessing quiets. Decisions feel clearer. You meet your pet’s needs without abandoning your own.

This is exactly what unfolds in a Soul Level Pet Reading with Somatic Healing. Through this work, I’ve watched pet parents soften into a deeper trust—recognizing their pet’s messages, feeling safe in their own body, and showing up with more clarity and confidence.

As you nurture these dormant parts of yourself, your pet feels it too! They get to live with someone who moves from love, not fear. Sometimes, we just need a little guidance to bring it forward.

Here for you,
Shay🤍

P.S. If this resonates, I’d love for you to experience the somatic shift firsthand. You can read details and book a session here.

Dear lovely subscriber, It’s been a while, but I’m writing again—spark reignited. A couple months ago, my cat Cloud had emergency surgery while I was out of the country: of all places, the Cloud Forest of Costa Rica. Not being there for him was one of my biggest fears come true. This wasn't our first hospitalization. But this time, it felt so different: I had the tools, the community, and the inner steadiness to stay grounded. I could still enjoy my trip. When I asked the land if my cat would...

Dear Reader,Tomorrow, I’ll be opening a letter I wrote to myself a year ago and updating my vision book—snapshots of my dreams and intentions for the year ahead. As the year comes to a close and I sit with this ritual, I’m struck by the same realization: the goals I believed in most clearly, the ones that felt tangible and within reach, were the ones that came to life the fastest.🐆 Here's why: while I love visualizing my wildest dreams, I don’t always feel fully connected to them. Can you...

via Pinterest Hi Reader,I've been diving down a deep rabbit hole of animal altars on Pinterest. This was prompted by a powerful animal message during a recent pet reading, and now I feel SO inspired to finally create one in my new apartment!I've been getting intuitive nudges to do this for months, but this reading was the final push I needed. Another beautiful reminder of how connected we are—y'all come into my life right when I need it, too. Here’s what happened:A client came to me with a...
